First, Do No Harm

First, Do No Harm is a dramatized case study telling the story of a system breakdown during the treatment of Ariana Romanov, a healthy obstetrics patient.

Based on actual facts drawn from the closed malpractice claims files of the Risk Management Foundation of the Harvard Medical Institutions, this 18-minute film is a wonderful tool for teaching a systems approach to patient safety. It is used by thousands of healthcare organizations in the United States and abroad.

Continuing the story, First, Do No Harm Part 2: Taking the Lead illustrates how one hospital might respond to a serious adverse event. This 19-minute dramatized case study focuses on the interaction among executives, clinical leaders, managers and board members in dealing with the unexpected. Accompanied by a Facilitator's Guide, Graduation Certificates and more than 40 minutes of expert commentary, its objective is to stimulate dialogue about how your healthcare community would handle similar circumstances.
